Free Sports Physicals Clinic, Paulina Peak Family Healthcare

Happy summer, everyone! I would like to welcome you to my clinic. Fall is just around the corner and if you have school age kids, it’s time to plan for the 2018-19 academic year. For those participating in athletics, sports physicals are required for students entering grades 6, 7, 9, and 11, or who’ve never participated in a sport before (i.e. the school must have a prior sports physical on record). Students will not be able to participate without it. Appointments fill up fast as the school year approaches, so make arrangements now! Note: Practices start mid-August for many sports; check with your school for exact dates.

To help families in the community meet this need Paulina Peak Family Healthcare is offering a free Sports Physicals Clinic on Saturday, August 4 from 8am to Noon. This is a walk-in clinic on a first come, first served basis. Mark your calendars and plan to get there early!

Why Does My Student Need a Sports Physical?

A sports physical helps identify serious or life-threatening conditions that make it unsafe to participate in a sport. During the exam the provider will obtain the student’s personal and family medical history, check lungs, heart, ear, nose, throat, and vision, and assess muscle strength, joint and bone formation, and flexibility.

Be sure to discuss any health concerns with your provider, such as previous head injuries, concussions, sprains or broken bones, shortness of breath, light-headedness, etc. You can also discuss how to avoid injuries common to their sport, recommendations for staying hydrated, and general health advice for athletes who wish to excel.

What to Bring

You’ll need to bring a copy of the OSAA’s School Sports Pre-Participation Exam with you. You can get this from the school or print the form directly from OSAA’s website.

Unable to Attend?

If you can’t attend the clinic, you can call us at 541-536-8060 to schedule a sports physical. If your child is due for their annual well-care visit and/or immunizations, this is an affordable option as these are done during the same visit and are covered by most insurance companies. Call our office for more information. Be sure to schedule this well in advance, as appointments fill up fast.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer!
